Gratitude for Space

This fall, I have been thinking a lot about space. No, really. I know it sounds absurd, but there are so many ways that space manifests itself in our daily lives, and I am finding myself being uniquely thankful for each one of them.

Taking a vacation

The first, and probably most obvious type of space is taking time away from my daily routine, and being in a whole new environment. It is so rejuvenating to step away from the daily grind of living in our society and have room to rest deeply, and I am so grateful to be able to take this kind of time this month. Being confident that people can still receive great care at Alpenglow while I am away really helps me be able to let go.

How my home space feels

My home space and how it feels is very important to me as well. There is a whole system called Feng Shui that aims to help energy flow easily through a space, and you can tell when it is done well. Lots of clutter or too much furniture can often induce a general feeling of overwhelm for me, so we work hard to keep those things at bay in our home.

Space in my weekly schedule

I have been sharing with a number of people how I have changed how I look at my week. Instead of cramming all the things I need to do into my schedule, I actually start with blocking out rest time. That can come in the form of exercise, which is a form of active rest, acupuncture, or naps. I never have trouble with being productive - it’s the rest time I struggle with, so this new approach has been so beneficial.

Open space in Colorado

Nature is my number one go-to for restoration. Whether it is walking on my nearby mesa, taking in the views of the mountains, or hiking deep into the stillness of the forest, nature just soothes my soul, and for that I am grateful.

Outer space

Okay, this one may be a little “out there,” (haha, pun intended...) but looking up at the stars can really help me remember how little my problems are. I love stargazing and thinking about just how far away each of those little points of light are, and how big those stars must be. It can really help put things into perspective.

These are a few of the ways in which I am grateful for space in my life.

What are you grateful for?
