A Little Behind-The-Scenes Moment (We’re Human Too)

hands on top of each other in a sign of support

Howdy! You know how we are always harping on lifestyle? It’s so important to our health, after all - such an integral piece to living your best life. Well, truth be told, we are always working on it ourselves as well. It’s always a work in progress.

I’m not sure if you are aware that 2020 was one of the hardest years in most of our lives, and even those of us who generally follow a good healthy lifestyle got a bit tripped up.

So, towards the end of the year, we started doing in-house challenges with the staff. We started with meditation - getting our heads straight by slowing our minds down. Then we did affirmations - we each wrote down 10 affirmations and posted them in the breakroom so that we could read them daily (and read our colleague’s affirmations as well for extra points!). Next up was a water challenge...we had to hit a certain volume of water each day. These were all basic and simple things to do, and each one built on the other. (We were supposed to hold on to the new habit we developed with each challenge.)

Now we’ve upped the ante and are cleaning up our diets in the month of February. Each one of us has a different goal in this challenge, since we all have different needs. One of us needs a lot of protein and veggies. Another has cut out corn and grains. Yet another is just trying to eat at least 2 meals a day. We all have different objectives, but we are all working together to reach our goals.

I have to say that I have had fun doing these challenges. We have a sticker chart in the breakroom to track our progress, and apparently I am very much driven by tracking in this way. Yes, even in my mid-forties, stickers motivate me!

I’ve been talking with a number of my patients about these challenges and it sounds like more people would like to get involved. To that end, I have created a facebook group where we can challenge and, more importantly, support each other. If you’re interested, head on over to https://www.facebook.com/groups/3636937299761020. We’ve been in the throes of the diet challenge this month, but I think we’ll start over with mindset/meditation beginning in March.

Feel free to join us for some inspiration! I’m excited to make 2021 a better year, how about you?
