Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture, Microneedling, and Hormonal Skin: What Your Skin Is Trying to Tell You

If your skin suddenly seems to have a mind of its own, your hormones may have something to say about it. From breakouts that appear out of nowhere to dry, dull skin and wrinkles that seem to show up overnight, hormonal shifts can have a very visible effect on your complexion. That’s why facial acupuncture, microneedling, and hormonal skin care can be such a powerful combination - especially when we look at what’s happening beneath the surface.

At Alpenglow Acupuncture, we believe beautiful skin isn’t just about what you put on your face. It’s also about what’s happening inside your body.

How Hormonal Changes Show Up on Your Skin

Hormones influence nearly every aspect of skin health, including oil production, hydration, collagen, circulation, inflammation, and the skin’s ability to repair itself.

And as estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, and other hormones fluctuate, your skin can change right along with them.

You may notice:

Acne and breakouts: Hormonal fluctuations can increase oil production and inflammation, often leading to breakouts around the chin, jawline, and lower face.

Dryness: As estrogen levels decline, particularly during perimenopause and menopause, the skin may produce less oil and have a harder time retaining moisture.

Loss of elasticity: Estrogen plays an important role in collagen production. When estrogen declines, collagen loss can accelerate, contributing to fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging.

Dull or uneven skin tone: Changes in circulation, inflammation, pigmentation, and skin turnover can leave your complexion looking less bright and more uneven.

And here’s the frustrating part: sometimes your favorite serum just isn’t cutting it anymore.

That’s because you may be trying to solve an internal problem with an external solution.

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture, Microneedling & Hormonal Skin: Why the Inside-Out Approach Matters

This is where our approach is a little different.

Rather than looking at your skin as an isolated organ, Traditional East Asian Medicine looks at the bigger picture. Sleep, stress, digestion, circulation, menstrual cycles, energy, and hormonal changes can all provide clues about what may be contributing to changes in your skin.

Acupuncture can be used to support the body’s overall balance and address patterns that may be contributing to inflammation, stress, poor circulation, or hormonal fluctuations.

This doesn’t mean acupuncture is going to magically “balance your hormones” in one treatment. (Wouldn’t that be nice?) Instead, we use acupuncture as part of a personalized treatment plan designed to support your body’s regulatory systems and overall wellness.

And when your internal environment is healthier, your skin often has a better foundation to do what it does best: repair, renew, and protect itself.

Where Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture Fits In

Facial rejuvenation acupuncture takes that whole-body philosophy one step further.

Very fine acupuncture needles are placed in specific areas of the face and body with the goal of supporting circulation, stimulating the body’s natural healing response, and encouraging healthy-looking skin.

Many patients love facial rejuvenation acupuncture because it isn’t about freezing your face or changing your features. The goal is to help your skin look like the best, healthiest version of itself.

Think: glowy, refreshed, lifted - not “What did you have done?”

Microneedling: Giving Your Skin a Little Nudge

Microneedling works beautifully alongside acupuncture because it takes a different approach.

During microneedling, tiny controlled micro-injuries stimulate the skin’s natural repair process. This can encourage collagen and elastin production and improve the appearance of fine lines, uneven texture, acne scars, and overall skin tone.

But - and this is important - microneedling isn’t necessarily the answer to every hormonal skin concern.

If your skin is constantly inflamed, extremely dry, or experiencing significant hormonal breakouts, we want to understand why before simply creating more stimulation.

That’s why combining skin-focused treatments with a whole-body approach can be so helpful.

Your Skin Is Giving You Information

One of my favorite things about working with women through hormonal transitions is helping them understand that their changing skin isn’t something they simply have to accept.

Your skin can be a reflection of what’s happening internally - and it can also give us valuable information.

Maybe your skin became dry when your periods became irregular. Maybe you suddenly developed adult acne in your 40s. Maybe your usual skincare routine stopped working. Or maybe you’re simply noticing that your skin doesn’t bounce back quite like it used to.

Those changes deserve more than another expensive bottle of serum.

At our Golden clinic in the Applewood neighborhood, our facial rejuvenation specialist works to create a whole-body approach to skin health. We look at both the skin you can see and the factors that may be influencing it from the inside.

Because sometimes the best way to improve your skin is to stop treating it like the problem.
