Spring Skincare Tips In the Rockies
Spring in Colorado brings fluctuating temperatures, dry air, and increased sun exposure due to the high altitude. Here’s how to adjust your skincare routine to keep your skin healthy and hydrated:
1. Focus on Hydration
Colorado’s air remains dry even in spring, so keep your skin hydrated with a lightweight but deeply hydrating moisturizer containing hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or ceramides. The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA is great! For the eyes try ROC Multicorrexion Hydrate + Plump Eye Cream with hyaluronic acid and peptides...I feel like for me most eye creams are ehh…but I am liking this one.
2. Use a Gentle, Non-Stripping Cleanser
Dry air can still make your skin feel tight, so opt for a hydrating or cream-based cleanser rather than harsh foaming ones such as The Ordinary’s Glycolipid Cream Cleanser. If your skin gets oily in warmer weather, try a gentle gel cleanser instead like Kopari’s Marine Clean Purifying Gel Cleanser.
3. Increase Sun Protection (SPF is a Must!)
Colorado’s higher elevation means stronger UV rays. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30-50 daily and reapply every 2 hours if you’re spending time outdoors. I really like Kopari’s Bright as Day Sheer Mineral SPF50 as well as Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water Fit Sun Serum…both are super lightweight.
4. Add an Antioxidant Serum
UV exposure and springtime allergens can lead to irritation and premature aging. A vitamin C serum helps protect against sun damage and brightens the skin. I have been enjoying Prequel’s Lucent-C Brightening Vitamin C Serum with Ferulic acid, and niacinamide.
5. Exfoliate with Care
Dry, flaky winter skin needs exfoliation, but don’t overdo it in Colorado’s dry climate. Use a gentle chemical exfoliant (AHA/BHA) 1-2 times a week to maintain a fresh, smooth complexion. I really like Kopari’s Coconut Renewal AHA Toner because it does the job without irritation.
6. Combat Seasonal Allergies
Spring allergies can cause redness, puffiness, and irritation. Use a fragrance-free, soothing moisturizer with aloe, green tea, or chamomile to calm the skin. La Roche-Posay’s Hydrating Gentle Cleanser is a good option. Cold eye gels or jade rollers help with under-eye puffiness.
7. Keep Lips and Hands Hydrated
Lips and hands tend to dry out in Colorado’s climate. Use a hydrating lip balm with SPF and a nourishing hand cream to prevent chapping. I like Solara Suncare Pout Protector Moisturizing Lip Serum with SPF15. Try Weleda Skin Food Ultra Rich Cream for your hands.
8. Stay Hydrated Inside & Out
Drink plenty of water and herbal teas to combat dehydration. A humidifier at home can also help maintain skin moisture.
Bonus tip - If you find that your skin needs an extra boost as we transition into spring, get yourself in for a Facial Rejuvenation or Microneedling Treatment. I have added Tuesday mornings to offer more availability!
Here’s to a beautiful spring and a beautiful you. 💜
