The Year of the Snake
Ahhhh, 2025. What a time to be alive. This year is an interesting one, according to the East Asian Medicine (EAM) theory and zodiac - the year of the Yin Wood Snake. The snake by nature is very cautious and perceptive, but strong and wise. Last year, we were confident and unafraid of taking risks (it was the year of the Dragon) and this year, we’re a little more observant and introspective.
Imagine a snake shedding its skin - we need to recognize our old patterns, healthy or unhealthy, and let go of them. We’re transforming into our better selves, whether it be physical, mental or emotional. (Or all 3)! We have power on our side and attention to detail. A snake knows when to strike, so waiting and watching to see when the right time to make moves is imperative. That will give you some punch behind whatever it is you’re trying to accomplish.
What do the other aspects mean? Yin and yang are two very basic ideologies in Eastern medicine. Yin being the more nourishing, grounded, rejuvenative energy and yang being the more active, energetic, moving energy that we all need sometimes. This being a “yin year,” focusing a little more on how your decisions will nourish you for the better. For example, what dietary changes can you make or what little choices everyday can lead you to where you want to be?
For me, I am taking the steps to preserve my energy and time for the betterment of myself and my family. What serves us energetically or emotionally and what doesn’t? As a perpetual “yes” person my whole life, this introspection has really allowed me to find my “no” and that feels incredibly empowering.
The five elements are all represented in EAM theory, being: wood, water, earth, metal, and fire. This is a “wood” year, so think of it this way: we are laying the foundation for all ideas to explode and for things to come to fruition! Doesn’t that sound exciting?
Remember, glide through your year with attributes of snake - elegance and patience, wisdom and persistence. I’ll be interested to hear how that resonates with you specifically and goals you have set for the year ahead!
