Balancing Hormones with Acupuncture and Herbs
Let’s talk about hormones - not the raging, throw-a-shoe-kind (well, those too) but the ones that keep your body running like a well-oiled, emotionally stable machine.
I thought it might be helpful to break down what we’re actually doing when you come in for your treatments, and how acupuncture and herbs help bring everything back into balance.
When we think of hormones, it’s easy to simply think of their role in our cycle each month. But because they are chemical messengers that work throughout the body they regulate everything from our brain function, metabolism, heart rate and blood pressure, sexual function and mood to our growth and development. This is why you might hear us asking about things that might not seem relevant at first, but are actually all part of the big picture.
While hormones are often linked to the menstrual cycle, they’re actually busy managing so much more. That’s why we may ask questions about sleep, digestion or stress - it’s all connected.
Hormonal shifts don’t happen overnight. They’re more of a slow walk than a sprint.
When things go out of balance, you might experience fatigue, mood swings, acne, missed or irregular periods, brain fog, fertility challenges and even digestive shifts.
Acupuncture helps by regulating the nervous system, boosting circulation, reducing stress and supporting key organ systems. This creates ripple effects throughout the cycle: promoting ovulation, balancing estrogen and progesterone, easing cramps, and improving regularity.
Basically, acupuncture is like a reset button for your entire system.
Herbs act like an extension of your treatment at home. They regulate the same systems internally, and work to create deep lasting change. We often work in layers - addressing the most noticeable imbalances first, then digging deeper. When helpful, we’ll pair herbal formulas with supplements to support and accelerate change.
Your body wants to be in balance. Sometimes it just needs a little guidance getting there.
I’m here to tell you first hand that if you’re dealing with hormonal shifts, cycle irregularities, or just feel a bit “off”, you’re not alone. Acupuncture and herbs have personally helped me throughout the many stages of life (hello perimenopause!). It is gentle and effective. And I often say, we all deserve a weekly, scheduled nap. I wish they had kept those around past kindergarten!
Let us know if you have any questions! We’ve all been there and we’re here to help.
